CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A Calgary man convicted of criminal harassment wants his verdict and sentence overturned.
In 2018, a jury found businessman Ken Carter guilty of hiring a private investigator to watch his former girlfriend while embroiled in a custody battle.
Prosecutors said that in 2012, Carter paid $800,000 to harass and discredit his girlfriend and try to gain custody of her daughter.
Carter is arguing there were problems with the judge’s decisions during the cross-examination of his former girlfriend.
He is also appealing on grounds the sentence is unfit and the judge singled out a juror who refused to agree with the jury and felt “picked on” during deliberations.
Carter was originally sentenced to three years in prison and given a lifetime ban on prohibited and restricted firearm and a 10-year ban on all other weapons.
