Students at Bowness High School go online due to outbreak

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Nearly 1,200 students at a northwest Calgary high school are logging in online for classes starting Monday morning.

Bowness High School said it is shutting its doors to in-person learning for all grades after the school declared an outbreak of COVID-19.

The Calgary Board of Education sent a letter to parents saying the school has between five and nine cases of the virus and that students will have to work from home until Mar. 18.

According to Alberta Health, 20 schools in Calgary are under the outbreak status with five to nine cases confirmed, though Bowness High School is the only one closed to students.

About 9 other schools have 10 or more cases confirmed.

An outbreak designation is deemed complete by the province if no new cases are found for 28 days.
