Alberta Medical Association asking for more hospital support for children

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – Pediatricians with the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) are voicing their concerns and have written a letter to the premier in hopes of more support for children and families to keep them safe.
The doctors say they are seeing more and more variant COVID cases in hospitals that are dangerous to younger people.
Dr. Sidd Thakore with the Alberta Children’s Hospital says more needs to be done.

“The concerns, from my perspective, come from more of a pediatric part is that we are seeing younger people being hospitalized, increasing not just in the ICU, and we haven’t taken any new measures to curtail that,” said Thakore.
Moving ahead, Thakore adds we need to be very cautious.

“This is not ending tomorrow. We know children can not be immunized right now and this is going to take some time, so we really got to be cautious and put stronger and tighter measures moving forward here.”
The letter sent to Premier Jason Kenney is also calling for tougher restrictions, paid sick leave, and increased mental health supports.
