Winter storm expected to roll through mountain parks

BANFF – Less than a week after we saw a heat warning blanket much of Alberta, Environment Canada has issued a winter storm warning for Banff and Jasper National Parks.
The weather agency says hazardous winter conditions are expected along Highway 93, from Lake Lousie and Jasper to Saskatchewan River Crossing.
“Heavy snowfall will continue along Highway 93 at higher elevations. A total of 30 to 40 centimetres is expected to fall by Tuesday morning,” reads an alert from Environment Canada.
The alert says travellers should consider postponing trips through the area until conditions improve as rapidly accumulating snow could make it difficult to get around. It also wants that visibility may be limited.
Temperatures in the Banff townsite are forecasted to hit a high of 10 with up to 10 millimetres of rain. Lake Louise could see five centimetres of snow.
Jasper’s high for Monday is set at 11 degrees with up 20 millimetres of rain expected to fall in the townsite.
