Two adults, child hit after truck rolls down northeast Calgary road

One woman and a young child have been taken to hospital after being hit by a car which was hit by a flatbed truck on Wednesday morning in northeast Calgary.

EMS say they were called around 11 a.m. to 4 Ave. NE just east of Edmonton Trail for reports of multiple people being hit by a car.

Upon arrival, EMS found two adults and a two-year-old boy who had been hit by the vehicle.

The Calgary Police Service Collision Reconstruction Unit provided an update shortly after the crash, saying the collision was the result of a domino effect.

“The truck and trailer were being unloaded at the construction site up on 4A Street,” said Acting Sgt. Dylan Harris.

“That vehicle rolled down the hill, it was unoccupied at the time, no driver in the vehicle. It obviously gained momentum down the hill and then struck two parked vehicles, one of those vehicles struck two pedestrians around the vehicle.”

A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with serious, possibly life-threatening, injuries. While the child was taken to the Alberta Children’s Hospital in stable condition.

EMS say a man was also assessed at the scene but didn’t have any significant injuries.

Police have closed roads in the area while they investigate.
