Pilot killed after small plane crashes near Calgary, Springbank Airport

A 45-year-old man is dead and a 22-year-old woman is in hospital with serious life-threatening injuries after a small plane crashed outside of Springbank Airport Friday afternoon.
Calgary EMS spokesperson Stuart Brideaux says paramedics responded to a report that a light aircraft had crashed north of Highway 1 near the airfield shortly after 3 p.m.
He says paramedics found a man, one of two people in the aircraft, dead.

Cochrane RCMP says the victim, the pilot, was pronounced dead at the scene.
Mounties add the plane had sustained damages to the wing and body.
The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is sending a team of investigators to the scene.
The cause of the crash is unknown and still under investigation.
