National Immunization Week is an opportunity to raise awareness about one of the most important public health innovations: vaccines.

This coincides with Immunization Week which takes place from April 23-30 and highlights taking collective action to promote the use of vaccines to protect people of all ages against diseases, according to the World Health Organization.

“While many now think of COVID-19 when we talk about vaccines, immunizations play a vital role in our health and wellness,” said Health Minister Jason Copping. “They help protect us, our communities, and those who are too young or unable to get vaccinated due to other medical conditions.

“Today, many deadly diseases are preventable through immunization. Those with questions or concerns regarding immunizations are encouraged to speak with their family doctor, contact Health Link by calling 811 or visit the Immunize Alberta website to learn more.
