One dead, one injured after truck crashes into Calgary bus shelter

A 42-year-old man is dead and another is hurt after a truck crashed into a bus shelter in Calgary’s southeast community of Forest Lawn Sunday.
Police say it happened just before 9:30 a.m. when the driver of a truck veered onto the sidewalk at the intersection of 36 Street SE and 17 Avenue SE.
“The truck continued moving along the curb, rubbing against the wall of a nearby business, before striking and damaging a bus shelter,” police said in a release.
Officers believe the 42-year-old was standing in or near the bus shelter when he was hit.
The 42-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene, while EMS say the driver of the truck, a man in his 70s, was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Roads in the area were closed for several hours after the crash.
Police add speed and a medical incident are being investigated as possible factors in the collision.
