Calgary Olympic Plaza holding first skate of the season Sunday

You’ll be able to head to Calgary Olympic Plaza on Sunday for the first skate of the season.

The “family fun” skate is happening from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m.

The city says it’s the only place you can skate in Calgary, that is refrigerated and outdoors.

“We are pleased to welcome Calgarians to the Olympic Plaza for another season of skating. This rink is easily accessible by Calgary Transit, and provides a great outdoor activity space for all to enjoy throughout the winter season,” manager of parks operations Carmen Hindson said.

Calgary Transit will be providing free hot chocolate, and there will be an appearance from Transit Teddy, the agency’s mascot.

Anyone taking transit to the plaza Sunday will be able to ride the CTrain for free from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Olympic Plaza will be open daily from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. for public skating from Nov. 20 until mid-March 2023. If you don’t own skates, you can rent them from the Skate Hut.

The city adds hockey sticks, toboggans, sleds, and strollers are not allowed on the ice, and helmets are “strongly encouraged.”
