A Calgary woman is wanted for allegedly defrauding people by posing as a landlord, according to police.
Officers believe the woman posted multiple online ads throughout October for a vacant apartment located on 2 Avenue NE in the Crescent Heights area.
Once someone responded, police say the woman would “host a showing” and then agree to rent the apartment to them.
The woman is said to have asked for a damage deposit for the apartment with a promised move-in date.
After a person agreed to exchange e-transfers for the apartment, police allege she would cut off communication once she received the money.
Investigators believe the woman lived at the apartment previously but say she is not the rightful owner and did not have the authority to rent or sublet the space.
Calgary police are now looking for 33-year-old Crystal Kathleen Shannon for fraud under $5,000.
Police describe her as being 5’4″ tall, 265 pounds, with blonde hair and blue eyes.
Anyone with information about the whereabouts of Shannon or rental scams is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or leave a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
