Calgary blowing snow cause visibility issues, multiple crashes

Calgary weather is causing issues for drivers Thursday morning, with a few reported crashes in the city due to visibility and slippery roads.

Winds are expected to blow around 68 kilometres per hour, sometimes hitting 80 km/h, but will lessen to 20-40 km/h, according to Environment and Climate Change Canada.

In addition, multiple callers say the wind is causing visibility issues on the road, along with slippery conditions. In the east, snow is impacting visibility for drivers.

Earlier, a crash in the city’s northwest blocked multiple lanes on 14 Street southbound at Berkley Gate south of Beddington Trail just after 6 a.m.

It has since been cleared.

Callers to CityNews said it was impossible to get through 14 Street southbound.

It’s unclear if there are any injuries.

There are also crashes on Shaganappi Trail and Stoney Trail NW and a two-vehicle incident on westbound Stoney Trail and Metis Trail NE as of 7:15 a.m.
