Elections Alberta says the official results from the May 29th provincial election will be released this Thursday, but in a release Monday, the NDP says it has claimed two seats in Calgary that were up in the air.

The New Democrats say following a recount over the weekend, Diana Batten has won the vote in Calgary-Acadia, unseating former UCP justice minister Tyler Shandro.

Shandro was the health minister during the early days of the pandemic.

The NDP says a recount shows they have also claimed the seat in Calgary-Glenmore, with Nagwan Al-Guneid unseating the UCP’s Whitney Issik, who had previously served as minister of the environment and parks.

The release says the Alberta NDP elected 38 members on May 29, sweeping the Edmonton seats and winning a majority of the seats in Calgary with 14. Calgary-Glenmore with a margin of 42 votes and Calgary-Acadia with a margin of 25 votes.

With the wins, the NDP has 38 seats in the upcoming legislature while the UCP has 49.
