As parts of Alberta face wildfires amid hot and dry conditions, other parts are seeing rain and flooding.
Parks Canada has issued a flood closure bulletin for Waterton Lakes National Park in the province’s southwest corner.
The closure applies to hiking trails, backcountry campgrounds, and the Red Rock and Akamina parkways. The Townsite and Kootenai Brown Trail and Townsite Lakeshore Trail are not affected by this order.
Update: The area closures due to the significant rain event remain in place. Assessments are ongoing throughout the park. Akamina Parkway is expected to be closed throughout the week and weekend. https://t.co/ioIWHuacnZ pic.twitter.com/UbT7ONwsfd

Parks Canada says the situation was prompted by a “significant rain event,” with assessments underway throughout the park. The rain has led to “debris flows,” triggering dangerous conditions.
As people are asked to stay away, Parks Canada is issuing a reminder that violating the order can result in charges and a maximum penalty up to $25,000.
