Person arrested after brandishing hatchet on CTrain

By Todd Kaufman

Police have arrested a person who pulled out a hatchet on a CTrain early Tuesday afternoon in the northeast.

Police say an individual boarded a CTrain at the Martindale LRT station around 1 p.m. and took out a hatchet from underneath a heavy jacket.

The person then became very aggressive towards passengers on the train and was waving the hatchet around and uttering threats.

No injuries were reported, but the window separating the driver from the passengers was broken.

Passengers were able to safely get off the train, but the person continued to threaten both passengers and passersby.

A good samaritan driving by saw the event unfolding and called 9-1-1 then got out of the vehicle and tried to subdue the attacker until police arrived.

The individual was taken into custody and then to hospital and charges are pending.

Anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers.
