Calgary Stampede Day 1: What’s on tap?

The 111th Calgary Stampede is here and there’s lots going on around the city for the first day of the festival.

The day began with spectators flocking downtown to watch the parade, some arriving as early as 5:30 a.m. to secure a seat.

For Calgarians headed down to the grounds from the parade, admission is free from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m.

The RCMP horse display is on at the agriculture building, where you can also find 100 Years of Chuckwagon history, horse haven, mini donkeys, and the country critters and dairy showcase.

And, he might not make a sheep disappear, but something will likely vanish before your eyes at the grand illusionist magic show at the BMO Centre Stage of Wonders.

If you’re in the mood for some two-stepping, Cole Malone takes the stage at Nashville North beginning at 5 p.m.
