Calgary police say a man has died following a single vehicle collision on Crowchild Trail Friday morning.
Investigators were called to the scene around 2 a.m.
Police believe a green 1997 Chevrolet Suburban was travelling southbound on Crowchild Trail NW approaching the intersection at 24 Avenue NW, when the driver failed to navigate the curve of the road.
The vehicle mounted the curb of the centre median on the south side of the intersection and struck a traffic signal pole, they add.
The 77-year-old man driver was ejected from the vehicle and declared dead at the scene.
Speed and alcohol are considered to be factors in the incident.
Calgary police’s traffic department continues to investigate and believes the driver had travelled from Cochrane into Calgary before the collision.
Anyone with information or dashcam footage related to the incident is asked to call police at 403-266-1234 or submit a tip anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
