Calgary police charge 1, search for 2 others in CTrain stabbing

Calgary police have charged one person in connection with an early morning stabbing at a CTrain station Monday.

Just before 5 a.m. on Aug. 21, investigators say a physical fight ignited between a group of three men and a male victim on the platform of the 8 Street CTrain platform.

Police say during the fight, one man held the victim down while another man stabbed him.

The group then left the areas while the victim made his way to the transit help phone, where he called for help.

Investigators say the man was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition by emergency personnel.

In an update Tuesday, his condition was upgraded to stable.

Calgary Transit CCTV images of the suspect believed to be responsible for the stabbing were distributed to patrol officers who began looking for the individual.

Police say he was found just before 7 a.m. near Century Gardens at 7 Avenue and 8 Street. When the suspect was searched, officers found a small amount of fentanyl.

Investigators say the people in this incident are known to each other.

Stacy Draven Sky Swampy, 25, of Calgary, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a controlled substance.

He is set to appear in court on Sept. 5.

Police are continuing to search for two people believed to be involved in the initial fight.
