Calgarians flocked to Eau Claire Mall Saturday afternoon to say farewell to the Calgary landmark before its final days. Jillian Code caught up with Calgarians who say the mall holds countless memories.

After 30 years, Calgarians will have one final chance to say farewell to Eau Claire Market as it is set to close at the end of May.

The farewell celebration on Saturday goes until 4 p.m., and there will be cultural performances, interactive art projects, and “something for everyone to enjoy.”

There are two stages where bands such as The Rondel Roberts Band, Dan the One Man Band, and Michaela Sheedy will perform.

A kid’s stage will feature a PAW PATROL meet and greet, balloon artists, basketball with the Calgary Surge basketball team, and more.

Harvard Developments, which owns the mall, will hand over the keys to the market by June 1. to the City of Calgary.

It is being torn down for the Green Line LRT Station, which the city expects to begin at the start of July.

A couple of businesses in the area will keep running as normal, and some vendors are going to move to another mall and continue to operate.

The Cineplex, which has hosted the Calgary International Film Festival, closed on May 5.

Several vendors will also be open for the celebration.

Editor’s note: The beginning of this story has been corrected to say Eau Claire Market will close at the end of May, rather than being demolished at the end of the month. The city has said it is expected to be torn down at the start of July.
