RCMP warn of increased property crime in Calgary area

Calgary-area RCMP are warning residents about a rising trend of property crime in the area.

Over the past few weeks, police in Strathmore, Chestermere, and Okotoks, have responded to a number of home break and enters and thefts believed to be committed by the same people.

Investigators have determined suspects have been breaking to vehicles and stealing garage door openers and vehicle registration. Later, the homes of these victims are being broken into.

In some instances, police say the vehicles were targeted while the victims were camping, and when they got home, they noticed someone had broken into their home.

To protect yourself, RCMP are advising the public to secure their vehicles, even when camping or in remote locations, consider not keeping garage door openers and documents with their home address in their vehicle, and make sure all thefts from vehicles are reported to police.

RCMP are releasing photos of the suspects and a suspect vehicle linked to the crimes.

Anyone with information on these crimes or the identity of the suspect is asked to call Strathmore RCMP at 403-934-3968 or your local police. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to CrimeStoppers.
