Woman in 90s dead after being hit by CTrain in NE Calgary

Calgary police say a woman in her 90s is dead after being hit by a CTrain in the city’s northeast Friday morning.

Police say it happened just north of Whitehorn Station at 36 Street NE and 44 Avenue NE before 9:30 a.m.

Investigators say a woman in her 90s was walking westbound on the north side of the intersection when she has hit by the front of a CTrain that was travelling southbound.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene. No other injuries were reported.

Police believe the warning signals were operating normally at the time of the crash. They do not believe speed or alcohol were factors in the collision.

The crash caused delays for riders during a busy morning commute on Calgary Stampede parade day. Calgary Transit said shuttle buses were arranged between Whitehorn and McKnight Station throughout the morning.

Northbound 36 Street was closed at Whitefield Road NE and southbound 36 Street was closed at McKnight Boulevard NE until about 12:30 p.m.
