Horror clowns Mump and Smoot are back on a Calgary stage this week for EXIT, part of High Performance Rodeo, the iconic duo’s first new production in over a decade.
In all, John Turner and Michael Kennard have toured 11 shows since 1988. But this may be the last, or not.
“It might be the last time, we never know,” Turner said. “There was a little bit of immediacy to it, just looking at our ages and going, are we going to physically be able to sustain a show anymore?”
Kennard continued, “let’s give it a shot. And here we are.”
The duo, first created in the mid 1980’s is inspired by pop culture hits like Evil Dead and Monty Python.
Clowning in itself is an art form that is based on physical comedy, improv, and innocence. But the situations Mump and Smoot discover themselves in are anything but.
In EXIT, they discover they have died and are stuck in some sort of limbo. It is billed as dark, twisted, and hilarious.
