Two people living in northwest Calgary were awoken early Tuesday morning to a fire on their balcony.
Calgary Fire Department (CFD) fire information officer Carol Henke says crews were dispatched around midnight for reports of a house fire on Memorial Drive NW, across the street from Poppy Plaza.
Firefighters were able to quickly knock down the flames resulting in minimal smoke damage to the inside of the home.
Thermal imaging cameras were also used to check for any extension or hot spots.
Two people sleeping in the basement of the house were evacuated and didn’t sustain any injuries. They were able to go back inside following the incident.
Crews on scene installed two smoke alarms after the blaze was extinguished.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
