Calgary police are investigating after a person fell out of a moving vehicle in the northwest late Wednesday night.

Police say the single-vehicle incident happened around 11:25 p.m. on westbound Country Hills Boulevard at Beddington Trail NW.

Investigators believe a white 2000 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by a 21-year-old woman, was traveling west on Country Hills Boulevard NW when one of the passengers, a 21-year-old man, climbed out of the front passenger window and tried to access a motorcycle in the cargo box of the truck while it was moving.

The man fell from the vehicle and was critically injured, police say. He was taken to hospital in life-threatening condition.

The driver and the other occupants of the Chevrolet weren’t hurt and remained at the scene.

Neither excessive speeds nor drugs are considered to be factors in this incident.

Alcohol is being investigated as a fact only on the part of the injured passenger, according to investigators. The driver isn’t believed to have been impaired.

Anyone who witnessed the incident or who may have CCTV or dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact police at 403-266-1234 or tip anonymously through CrimeStoppers.

Two westbound lanes on Country Hills Boulevard NW were closed for several hours for an investigation by the Calgary Police Service Traffic Reconstruction Unit.

Area roads reopened to traffic around 4:30 a.m.
