Veteran Calgary cop charged in string of hardware store thefts

A Calgary cop who was in the force for two decades, is facing charges following allegations of theft from several hardware stores

A Calgary police officer is facing charges following a string of thefts from hardware stores over the course of a year.

The Calgary Police Service (CPS) says it began investigating this month after getting reports of hardware store thefts in Calgary and the surrounding area.

Police allege more than $10,000 worth of items were stolen over a 12-month period.

The investigation led to a CPS officer being identified as a suspect.

Const. Bradley Tepper, a 20-year member of the force, has been charged with one count of theft over $5,000 and one count of fraud over $5,000. CPS says he has been relieved of his duties.

“When a criminal investigation involves one of our own members, it has the potential to undermine trust and confidence in our Service,” says Calgary Police Chief Katie McLellan in a statement. “With investigations like this, our responsibility to conduct a thorough and impartial investigation is integral to upholding our principles of accountability and integrity.”

Tepper is expected to appear in court in September.
