Man in 70s dead in Highway 1 crash east of Calgary

One person is dead following a crash on Highway 1 east of Chestermere Wednesday morning.

A man in his 70s is dead following a highway crash east of Calgary on Wednesday morning

Emergency crews were called to the intersection of Highway 1 and Range Road 281, just east of Chestermere, around 8 a.m., for reports of a two-vehicle crash.

RCMP say a 73-year-old man who was the driver of one of the vehicles was pronounced dead at the scene.

Two more people were taken to hospital with injuries described as non-life-threatening, including a 19-year-old female driver of the second vehicle.

The highway was shut down for several hours as police investigated. It has since reopened to traffic.

The investigation into the cause of the crash is ongoing.
