Fire ban in effect outside Calgary in Rocky View County

Recent hot and dry conditions have led to a fire ban outside of Calgary.

The ban is in effect for West Rocky View County, which includes the Bragg Creek, Springbank, and Balzac areas. East Rocky View County also has a fire ban in effect.

The county says outdoor fire pits and campfires aren’t permitted, and all burning and fireworks permits have been suspended, with burning permits being suspended due to dry and windy conditions.

They add that burning in general is banned, with a few exceptions:

  • Indoor household fireplaces.
  • Camp stoves (properly attended).
  • Barbecues (charcoal briquettes, propane, or natural gas).
  • Wood pellet grills.
  • Propane/natural gas fire pit.
  • Oil well flaring.

Registration is required for the oil well flaring, and residents can call 403-264-1022 to get started.

Anyone looking for more information can go the Rocky View County websiteTo see more information about fire bans in the province, people are advised to go to the Alberta Fire Bans website.
