School is almost out for the summer.
And while kids are daydreaming about fun in the sun, for busy Calgary parents, the two-month break can leave them scrambling for childcare and entertaining ways to fill those long summer days.
But there are still plenty of options for summer programs in Calgary, according to Jody Willaims, programs and services coordinator with the City of Calgary.
She says the city has everything from swimming, outdoor recreation, crafts, and even sailing.
“There’s a broad range of activities and new experiences that children can have this summer,” Williams said.
“Things that will really bring some fun and vitality to those long summer days and give parents something fun to talk about at the dinner table.”
The programs run every week of the summer break, starting Monday, July 3, and finish on Aug. 25.
The summer programs are full-day ones that run from 9 a.m. until 4 p.m., so she tells hopeful summer campers to “dress appropriately.”
“We know in Calgary we could get all seasons of the year during the run of the day. So, sunscreen, a hat, things that are going to be comfortable both inside and outside for a fresh-air time.”
Williams explained that prices range according to different camps at different locations, and she says the city has options available for families who work throughout the city’s program.
“Late pickups may be charged a late pickup fee. If you will be late, call 311 to be transferred to the facility and inform day camp staff,” a note on the city’s website on summer camps reads.
