Environment Canada warns of intense snowfall in central and southern Alberta

By CityNews Staff

A snowfall warning is in effect for much of central and southern Alberta on Wednesday, along with a wind warning for the south.

This includes Edmonton, Red Deer, Drumheller, and Medicine Hat.

Environment Canada says those areas could see upwards of 10 to 15 centimetres of intense snowfall.

Meteorologists say the heaviest amounts of snow will occur close to the British Columbia border and end by the evening. Snow to the north is expected to move to the east.

The weather agency says drivers should prepare to slow down due to changing road conditions and visibility issues.

“If visibility is reduced while driving, turn on your lights and maintain a safe following distance,” the ECCC said.

There is also a wind warning in place for the south, with 100-kilometre gusts expected to continue into the afternoon

Meteorologists say loose objects may be tossed by the wind and cause injury or damage, and advise drivers to adjust to changing road conditions due to high winds.

Calgary is not included in these warnings.
