Calgary police lay charges in the death of a woman whose body was found in an abandoned home in the community of Crescent Heights in 2022.

Tips from the public have led to police charging a man with murder in the death of a Calgary woman two-and-a-half years ago.

Calgary police were called to a home on 14 Avenue NE just east of Edmonton Trail NE around 6:45 p.m. on Aug. 20, 2022 for reports of a body found at an abandoned home.

Officers arrived to find a woman’s body inside and investigators called the death suspicious, saying she likely died several days before her body was found.

An autopsy identified the victim as 54-year-old Rhonda Waite, who also goes by Rhonda Joroszek.

In the past two and a half years, witnesses came forward which led to investigators ruling the death a homicide earlier this month. Police also appealed to the public for tips about the case.

Police say witnesses have since come forward with information on the homicide.

“This information was crucial in laying the second-degree murder charge and ultimately allowed us to provide answers, justice and closure for Rhonda’s family,” reads a statement from Staff Sgt. Mark Rahn of the CPS Homicide Unit.

Police have now charged 45-year-old Gregg Stanley Dodge with second-degree murder. He is scheduled to appear in court on Friday.

Anyone with information is being urged to call police at 403-266-1234, or submit tips to CrimeStoppers anonymously.
