A paid women’s soccer coaching position has been axed from the University of Calgary.
Current Head Coach Matthew Shepard was informed last week the Dinos Women’s Soccer team would now be coached by volunteers.
The move makes it the third woman’s varsity team at the U of C to go without university funding.
The school says the position was slashed in an attempt to balance the books.
Karin Lofstrom from the Canadian Association for the Advancement of Women and Sport and Physical Activity tells The Calgary Herald, the move is a bad one if the school wants their athletes to continue to develop and grow.
