Two women killed, three hospitalized in multi-vehicle crash NE of Calgary

Two women aged 33 and 63 were killed, and three others were rushed to hospital, including a child, after a multi-vehicle crash northeast of Calgary on Mother’s Day, RCMP say.

Mounties from Strathmore and Airdrie responded to a two-vehicle crash at Highway 9 and Highway 564 around 10:30 a.m.

When they arrived, officers found a GMC truck pulling a trailer and a Ford Escape.

Four people were found in the Ford, which included a child who was airlifted to hospital via STARS, and an adult man — both in serious condition.

Mounties said Monday that two Calgary women in the Ford Escape, ages 33 and 63, died. One was declared dead on the scene and the other in hospital.

Police say the lone occupant of the GMC was taken to hospital in serious condition.

“RCMP sends condolences to the family and friends of the deceased and families involved,” RCMP said.

Mounties diverted traffic around the collision as they investigated.

The highway reopened Sunday evening.
