It’s a mess.
Those are the words of Flames President Ken King after getting a firsthand look at flooding inside the Saddledome.
In a news conference Saturday afternoon at McMahon Stadium, King confirmed just how much water was inside.
“The tales of up to row 8 or 9 are absolutely true. It sits right now at about row 8. If you put that in perspective from the event level, that means that if you were a hockey player walking out onto the ice, you would be underwater,” said King.
King says the jumbo-tron was not on the arena floor when the water came, however a lot of other equipment is a total loss.
King couldn’t give an estimate of monetary loss but thinks insurance will cover it and says they have the biggest pumps in North America ready to get to work when the water recedes.
The objective, which King admits is ludicrously ambitious, is to have the building ready to host the plethora of events scheduled during Stampede.
King says they’ll be ready for the beginning of next hockey season.
