A man in his 20s is dead after a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.
Calgary police closed down 64th Ave & 68th St. NE after a car slammed into a tree around 3:20 a.m.
Sergeant Paul Cuthill with the Calgary Police Service tells 660 NEWS the victim was the only one in the car.
“The vehicle involved in the accident was a four-door sedan… The Traffic department of the Calgary Police Service are investigating,” said Cuthill.
The car was nearly cut in two from the impact and police say the young victim was not wearing his seatbelt.
Crash reconstruction investigators had the area closed for several hours while they pieced together what happened.
Police believe speed and road conditions were factors in the crash but more will be determined during the investigation.
Acting Sgt. Mudassir Rana says alcohol is not yet considered a factor but they’ll wait for toxicology reports to make a final determination.
