Calgary police have charged a teacher after complaints about an inappropriate relationship at Bishop McNally High School a decade ago.
The investigation was launched after a woman told police in January she had a sexual relationship with a teacher while she was a student at the northeast Calgary school.
The incidents happened at several homes and at the school between 2007 and 2009.
Despite the age of consent in 2007 being 14, the suspect was in a position of trust and authority over the victim for the duration of the alleged offences.
The alleged acts are illegal and in contravention of Section 153 of the Criminal Code of Canada.
Edwin Cay Arias, 45, was charged early Wednesday with sexual contact with a youth by a person in authority and sexual assault.
More details are expected to be shared by Calgary police Wednesday morning.
The Calgary Catholic School Board has also scheduled a news conference for Wednesday afternoon.
