Calgary goalkeeper gets Canada call

OTTAWA (660 NEWS) — For a second time, Cavalry FC goalkeeper Marco Carducci is headed to a Canadian national team camp.

The 23-year-old is coming off an outstanding 2019 campaign in the Canadian Premier League, where he was named goalkeeper of the year.

This marks the second call-up for Carducci by Canadian head coach John Herdman, who also selected the Calgary-born keeper last summer — the first time a CPL player was named to the national squad.

The upcoming 12-day camp kicks off the 2020 international season for Canada.

Over the next two weeks, Canada will play Barbados twice and Iceland once. With three games in such close succession, there’s a chance Carducci will make his first appearance as a member of the senior team. He previously represented Canada at the U-17, U-20 and U-23 levels.

The Canadian national team roster also includes fullback Sam Adekugbe. The 24-year-old suits up professionally in Norway.
