Police lay charges in Highland Park homicide

CALGARY — Calgary police have now charged a man following a suspicious death last month.

Twenty-year-old Mayiel Deng Kiir was dropped at the Peter Lougheed Centre around 4:30 a.m. on July 24 and died not long after.

Police believe Kiir had been in some form of altercation at a home in Highland Park, along 42 Avenue, which resulted in him being critically injured.

On Thursday, police charged 21-year-old Samuel Kong Liong with manslaughter in connection to Kiir’s death.

There is no set court appearance for Liong at this time.
