Cochrane woman killed following crash west of Calgary

A woman from Cochrane is dead, and two other people suffered serious injuries following a multi-vehicle crash west of Calgary Tuesday afternoon.
RCMP says around 4 p.m., they responded to a collision between two trucks and an SUV on Highway 8, just east of the Highway 22 traffic circle.
Mounties say the SUV was traveling westbound on Highway 8 when it braked and is believed to have slid on ice into oncoming traffic. The SUV collided with a heavy-duty pick-up truck that was traveling eastbound on Highway 8, causing the SUV to spin back into the westbound lane, striking a pick-up truck that had been traveling behind the SUV.
The driver of the SUV suffered serious injuries and the passenger, a 72-year-old woman died at the scene.
The driver of the SUV is in serious condition in hospital. Both are from Cochrane.
The driver of the heavy-duty pick-up truck from Calgary was taken to hospital with serious injuries but has since been released.
The driver and passenger of the pick-up truck, also both from Cochrane were assessed by EMS at the scene.
Police are advising motorists that the temperature change from warm to cold temperatures has caused icy conditions on highways in the area.
