Calgary police seek man in church arson investigation

Calgary police are looking to the public for help in identifying a man they believe has information on a church arson from over the summer.

On July 4 around 7:30 p.m., fire crews were called to the Calgary Vietnamese Alliance Church, also known as the House of Prayer Alliance Church, after someone saw flames coming from inside.

Firefighters arrived and were able to extinguish the fire quickly, but the building still sustained significant damage.

Investigators quickly began looking into the fire as this incident came as other similar events were occurring in and around Calgary.

Police were able to determine this event was unrelated to the discovery of unmarked graves at residential schools across Canada.

Police are now looking to identify one man they believe could have more information on this arson.

The man is described as being unshaven with tattoos on his hands and was wearing a black jacket, black pants and grey fingerless gloves.

Anyone with information is being asked to contact police.
