Calgary celebrates Indigenous culture and heritage for Canada Day

Calgary celebrated Canada Day in person for the first time in two years.

This year’s festivities were held at three downtown locations: Olympic Plaza, Fort Calgary, and St. Patrick’s Island Park.

The City of Calgary hosted a variety of engaging activities and opportunities to learn about Indigenous culture for Canada Day at Fort Calgary.

Fort Calgary featured a powwow, six teaching tipis, and trappers tents with different topics for learning opportunities from Indigenous stories to showcasing hand-crafted, and Indigenous-made products from an artisan market.

As well, there will be a grand entry featuring flag bearers, dancers, and the resting of the flags.

The Calgary Tower will light orange on July 1 in solidarity with, and in support of, Indigenous communities across Canada.
