Calgary is under a special air quality statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada.
Wildfire smoke drifting over the Rockies is causing poor air quality and reduced visibility in the city Monday.
The weather agency says the smoke may cause symptoms such as coughing, throat irritation, headaches or shortness of breath in some people.
“Air quality and visibility due to wildfire smoke can fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably from hour to hour,” the statement from Environment and Climate Change Canada reads.
Children, seniors, and people with cardiovascular or lung diseases, such as asthma, are especially susceptible to wildfire smoke and should take extra precautions to reduce their exposure.

Brooks, Strathmore, Vulcan, Okotoks, and some other areas across Alberta are also affected.
