Calgary man in fatal Forest Lawn shooting marks 26th homicide of year

Calgary police have identified the victim of a fatal shooting in the southeast neighbourhood of Forest Lawn that happened on Christmas Day.

At around 4:30 a.m., police say they received calls for shots fired on 36 Street SE.

Officers don’t say when they arrived, but that a man was transported to hospital. He eventually died in hospital from his injuries.

After an autopsy report Tuesday, police identified 24-year-old Samuel Welday Haile, now Calgary’s 26th homicide of the year, which has been a cause for concern for residents.

Investigators are not sure of any motive, or if the shooting is targeted or random.
