Driver caught snoozing behind the wheel of alleged stolen vehicle: Calgary police

Calgary police scored a double-double getting an allegedly impaired driver behind a stolen vehicle off the streets.
Just after 9 a.m. on Christmas morning, Calgary police were called to check on the welfare of a man who appeared to be slumped behind the wheel of a vehicle near 9 Street by 21 Avenue SW.
But it turns out the vehicle, a Pontiac Vibe, was stolen and the driver wasn’t experiencing a medical emergency.
Staff Sgt. John Guigon says police found the driver “slumped over and apparently passed out.”
“We queried the license plate and we noticed it was stolen, so we used vehicle-based tactics to stop the vehicle from moving, and fortunately they were successful and the person was apprehended and arrested,” he told CityNews.
A man was taken into custody with charges pending.
Guigon says it was a good way to get a crime suspect off the streets.
“There rarely is as simple (an arrest) as that one. That was a textbook one. We wish all of our interactions like that were that easy,” he said.
“That was a little Christmas gift for us.”
