ASIRT investigating after Calgary officer shoots suspect in the leg

Alberta’s police watchdog is investigating after a Calgary police officer shot a suspect in the northeast Thursday evening.

Calgary police say around 6:55 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 29, multiple calls were made from the community of Temple reporting a man with a gun acting erratically. Investigators say this included following a person while carrying a firearm, pointing a firearm at a person, assaulting a person with a firearm, and an attempted carjacking.

Officers arrived at Templebow Way NE around 7 p.m. and upon arrival, one officer discharged their service weapon.

The suspect was shot in the leg and taken into custody, according to police.

He was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

No CPS members or members of the public were hurt in this incident, according to police.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) has taken over the investigation into the incident, so CPS will not be releasing any further information.
