Police are working to identify a man who they say tried to abduct a girl at a park in northwest Calgary on Monday morning.
Officers were called to David Richardson Memorial Disc Golf Park near Country Hills Boulevard and Stoney Trail NW around 9:40 a.m.
Investigators say students from a nearby school were at the park for a field trip and were split into groups. One student left her group to go join another when a man allegedly came from behind her, restrained her arms and tried to pull her into a wooded area of the park.
The girl was able to break free after screaming and kicking the man, police say. She ran away and reported what happened to her teachers.
“We ask that members of the public exercise increased awareness if they, or their children, are visiting Royal Vista or the surrounding area,” reads a police release.
Police are asking for the public’s help trying to identify the man. He is described as having a light complexion and was last seen wearing black jeans, a black leather jacket, black leather gloves, black shoes with white soles and a baseball cap.
Anyone with information is being asked to contact police at 403-266-1234, or anonymously through Crime Stoppers.
