The Calgary Stampeders have landed one of the CFL’s top quarterbacks.
Calgary acquired Vernon Adams Jr. in a trade with the B.C. Lions on Tuesday, the teams announced.
The Lions acquire Calgary’s second-round (ninth overall) and fourth-round picks (29th overall), along with a second-round pick in 2026.
Calgary also gets a 2025 fourth-round pick (32nd overall) and third-round pick in 2026.
Adams Jr. became expendable when the Lions signed homegrown quarterback Nathan Rourke following NFL cuts this past summer.
At the time, Adams Jr. was out with a knee injury and Rourke became starter. The Lions turned back to Adams Jr. for the regular-season finale and a West semifinal loss against the Saskatchewan Roughriders.
Adams Jr. got the Lions off to a hot start in 2024 and was being mentioned as an most-outstanding-player candidate before his injury.
The Stampeders were the league’s worst team in 2024 with Jake Maier starting most games at QB. The team also signed former NFL quarterback P.J Walker this off-season.
