Calgary police have cancelled a dangerous person alert after the suspect in the double homicide of a father and daughter was found dead.
Police say 38-year-old suspect Benedict Kaminiski’s vehicle was also located, and there is no further risk to the public.
The Alberta Emergency Alert for the armed suspect was in effect for a little more than four hours Monday — from 12:13 p.m. to 4:40 p.m.
It was triggered after a father and daughter were found dead in two different northwest Calgary locations Sunday in what police are calling a domestic double homicide.
Residents in the communities of Bearspaw, Rocky Ridge, Tuscany and surrounding areas were asked to “be alert.”
Police inspector Lee Wayne told reporters Kaminski wasn’t known to police prior, and he had no previous convictions.
Wayne wouldn’t share details about the victims and any family dynamics.
Double domestic homicide on Sunday
Calgary police say the first victim, a man in his 70s, was found dead on the 0-100 block of Kincora Grove following reports of a person in medical distress at around 9:30 p.m.
The second victim, a woman in her 30s, was found further west on the 300 block of Tuscany Ridge Heights just under two hours later at 11:15 p.m.
Police believe the woman is the man’s daughter, and that the incident is both targeted and domestic. They also say there are no threats to the public.
Wayne says police heard additional concerns raised by family members, prompting them to go to the home in Tuscany.
Autopsies for the two deceased are scheduled for Friday.
