Suspects sought after armed robberies at vape shop, ATM in Calgary’s Beltline

Police are looking for two men who were allegedly involved in two armed robberies that were minutes apart in downtown Calgary earlier this month.

Calgary police say the first robbery happened around 12:30 a.m. on March 9 at Jerry’s Smoke and Vape on 17 Avenue SW near 5 Street SW.

It is alleged a suspect walked into the store, approached the counter and threatened an employee with a gun while demanding products. The suspect left the store with items and got into a 2017 white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup that headed west along 17 Avenue SW.

About 15 minutes later, the same suspect allegedly threatened someone who had just used an ATM outside a Bank of Montreal location near 17 Avenue SW and 9 Street SW.

The suspect threatened the victim with a gun and demanded money and their cellphone. The victim was able to safely get away after a small struggle.

The suspect again fled in a 2017 white Dodge Ram pickup truck that headed south on 9 Street SW. The victim flagged down police and reported the incident.

Investigators have identified the suspect as 36-year-old Matthew Kyle Reynolds, who is wanted on Canada-wide warrants for robbery and a number of weapons charges. He is also wanted on a warrant for theft under $5,000 in connection with a separate incident.

Police say Reynolds is from Saskatchewan and is described as 6’5″ tall, approximately 230 lbs. with brown hair and blue eyes. He is associated with a 2017 white Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck, the same type of vehicle used as a getaway in the alleged robberies.

After reviewing security footage, investigators learned a second suspect was present during the vape store robbery.

He is described as 25 to 35 years old, 5’11” to 6’1″ tall, with a medium build and having a small amount of dark facial hair. He was last seen wearing a dark-green hoodie, a black LA Dodgers baseball hat, black pants and light-coloured shoes.

Anyone who has information about where Reynolds is, or the identity of the second suspect, is being urged to contact police at 403-266-1234, or submit tips to CrimeStoppers anonymously.
