Father dead, son missing after canoe capsizes in Kananaskis: RCMP

A 60-year-old man has died, while another man is missing after a canoe capsized on Barrier Lake in Kananaskis.

A Calgary father is dead and his son is missing after a family fell out of a canoe that capsized on Barrier Lake in Kananaskis on Saturday.

Cochrane RCMP says they arrived at the scene around 6:30 p.m. on calls about the canoe, adding three people from Calgary were inside.

A 60-year-old man was found dead at the scene and a 56-year-old woman was taken to hospital with hypothermia. A 30-year-old man is missing.

Mounties have confirmed to CityNews that the three people involved are all family members — father, mother, and son.

RCMP says its underwater recovery team commenced a search for the missing son on Monday morning.

People are asked to avoid the area to allow responding crews to work safely.
