Gas prices expected to drop in Alberta on Friday

A reported ceasefire in the Middle East could bring long-awaited relief to Alberta drivers, with one expert predicting a noticeable drop at the pumps as early as Friday morning.
At one station in the Carrington community in northwest Calgary, regular fuel hovered just below $1.69 per litre on Thursday, with diesel sitting near $2.12 per litre.
En-Pro chief petroleum analyst Roger McKnight says those prices won’t last much longer. According to his forecast, Calgarians could see regular gasoline fall by roughly 12 cents per litre at midnight, with diesel expected to drop by about 20 cents per litre.
Drivers in Edmonton have been facing similar strain, with some stations posting prices as high as $1.749 per litre on Thursday.
Many Albertans have been grappling with elevated fuel costs since conflict erupted in the Middle East. McKnight says the reported ceasefire is easing pressure on crude prices, allowing retailers to lower pump prices across the province.
For residents like Mohammed Salem, any drop is welcome news.
“Needed for everyone for the economy, cause when the gas price goes up, everything goes up,” he said.
If McKnight’s prediction holds, Alberta drivers could wake up Friday to the most affordable fuel they’ve seen in weeks.
