Local charity launches program to help communities during COVID-19

CALGARY (660 NEWS) – A local charity that helps the less fortunate is launching a Holiday Hope Totes program.
Johanna Schwartz with The Alex says due to the ongoing COVID-19 restrictions, it won’t be their usual turkey dinner on Christmas.
“Generally, we would be hosting a holiday gathering and a hot meal,” said Schwartz.
“Unfortunately, we can’t do that this year. So, we’re asking Calgarians to put together tote bags, including basic need items, nice little treats, and a gift card for something special that we can distribute to a thousand of our community members this year.”

If a family or team can put together 10 or more totes, The Alex will drop off empty totes and provide curbside pickup of completed ones.
“We’re looking for warm socks, warm gloves, hygiene items like basic shampoos, soaps, snacks, non-perishable food items, as well as a $25 card so people can go get a cup of coffee or a nice lunch.”
She says there are over half-way to their goal of 1,000 tote bags.
